Siegel & Stockman

Visiting the Siegel and Stockman showroom was like entering an entire part of the fashion industry that I had never even thought of. Unlike most of the other corporations we visited focusing on apparel, accessories, embroidery, etc., Siegel and Stockman produce mannequins. This is a business I had never even imagined, but every department store and design studio has mannequins and dress forms so they had to come from somewhere. Siegel and Stockman produce mannequins for Macy's, Tori Burch, Disel, Sax, and more. They have many different brands of mannequins that have different silhouettes, finishes, etc. Siegel and Stockman has their own brand on mannequin called Siegel. They also carry mannequins from brands named Bonami, Superior, and more that are manufactured in France, the Phillipeans, and Amsterdam. I learned that these mannequins can be made from wood, plastic, rubber, metal, and also finished in fiberglass, muslin, linen, and even metallic paint. Our tour guide also explained that you could remove or change the faces of your mannequins. These mannequins are all so customizable so a designer or merchandising team can create the display they want.

The woman who gave us a tour of the showroom was named Chelsea Cameron and her job title is Account Executive. We got to ask her questions and learn about the business. She told us that she studied business and had internships to help her make her way in the New York fashion industry including Betsy Johnson. She also was a visual merchandiser for Tommy Hilfiger and Coach. Chelsea encouraged us to apply for internships and work very hard. She was an inspiration to me because she was such a nice and easy person to talk to and also very successful. This experience made me extremely excited to apply for internships and get started on my own career in apparel design.
