Fashion in an Age of Technology

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology
May 26th, 2016

I have been obsessed with the Met Gala for years, so saying I was excited to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art was an understatement. The Met Gala is a fundraising event for the museum's fashion exhibit. The most elite celebrities are dressed by prestigious designers in garments that match the theme of the Met Gala. This year, the Met Gala's theme was Manus X Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. When first entering the exhibit I was in immediate awe of everything around me. The atmosphere was dark with dimmed lighting and relaxing with soft music playing the the background. There were many projections on the walls- depending on the gown, which matched the theme of the gown to help enhance it using technology.

The dress I chose to post pictures of was the featured dress. This dress was designed by Chanel and was the center of the whole exhibit. The detail and bead work of the dress amazed me. After going to an embroidery factory (New York Embroidery Studio), and watching the employees do the beading by hand, we were even more amazed. It is crazy the amount of the time and energy that is spent on creating it.

At the end of the exhibit we each bought a book that explained all the designs, showed the details of each design, and had questions that were answered by the designers. This book is something that we will hold onto forever and we cannot wait to re-visit the Met agains someday!
